The Fable of the Elm Trees When I was maturing, a multitude of trees grew in the valley with me. I was by no means the oldest, and for quite a span, I was the youngest. I lived in a sheltering community, though, and felt at home with the individuals around me. With them I would be able to share my secrets and concerns, and learn much from their counsel.
The first day I remember clearly was overcast, but pleasant nonetheless, with clouds covering the sky like a fine garment. I was just a sprout, not more than a year or so old. I remember feeling a breath in the wind. Whenever the wind picked up, their leaves would begin flapping gently in the breeze.

Today I got a Flowerhorn Cichlid. Her name (I got a female) is Gladys, and her nickname is Cuddles.

Biology Lesson!
Cichlids are one of the most diverse taxonomic families (As in Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species) of vertebrates. They are found mainly in Central and South America and Africa, although there are some species that occur in India and Southern North America (i.e. Texas). Their outstanding diversity, bright colors, and variety of species lend them to be popular aquarium fish. The flowerhorn is a hybrid that does not occur naturally in the wild, but was bred from two cichlids that live in the waters of Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Some species, especially those from Central and South America, can get to be quite large. The flowerhorn in particular will grow longer than a foot in its lifetime. They can live for up to 20 years.

There is such diversity in cichlid species that scientists are having trouble determining the relationships between all the groups. Whole genera (more than one genus) are being discovered to be totally false, but the relationships of the species within these genera are unclear.

Why hello there. You seem to be a right jolly fellow. I suppose I will tell you about me then. I am an aspiring artist and author. I love to write. But only if it's about what I want to. Otherwise it's kind of a chore. That doesn't mean I won't do it though.

I love biology, my family, and Jesus.

I would really like it if you read some of the stories I'm working on. It means a lot to me and I want to get comments on it, so I can improve, you know?

I think I'm a pretty cool guy to hang around with. I hope so, at least. Strike me up and we can chat about the finer things in life, like video games and doggies.

I work as a Pet Care Specialist at PetSmart Stores, Inc. I also am Vice President of Administration for my university's Residence Hall Association. In addition, starting February, I will be the teacher's assistant for the ornithology class taught at my school. Three jobs, and I am studying biology with a minor in chemistry.
